Cameron & Wilding were approached by leading communications agency Public Life to act as the technology partner on the development of two extensive websites for the Nuffield Foundation: the main Nuffield Foundation site and the Nuffield Council on Bioethics site.
About the Organisations
The Nuffield Foundation is one of the largest British charitable trusts with an investment portfolio of ?203m. Founded in 1943 with goal of advancing social well being, the Nuffield Foundation funds a wide range of innovative research projects and also run their own projects such as the Nuffield Council on Bioethics and The Nuffield Curriculum Centre.
Public Life is a leading communications agency which works exclusively with 3rd sector and government clients. Public Life provide research, branding and digital services to clients such as Camden Council, Mencap and the Royal Society.
About the Site: Content
The overriding requirement of the site was to present a vast amount of content in an engaging and easy to navigate way. The Social Policy and Education sections of site contain extensive information about the different projects which the Nuffield found undertakes. Within these two sections content is grouped into themes such as "Law in Society", sub themes such as "Administrative Justice and tribunals" and projects which have been funded and executed, such as "Design and choice of redress mechanisms".
Highly Customisable Landing Pages
Such a large amount of content provides Nuffield with a constant stream of updates and new content which they wish to highlight. We built in simple backend user interfaces which let the staff choose which content should be featured. The front page provides even more flexibility and allows the staff to freely upload images and add text to highlight content in unique ways.
Microsites
One of Nuffield's most important areas of activity is in education curricula. Over the years they have created a wealth of content to inspire and support classroom teachers across the UK. This content is divided into themes, such as Practical Chemistry or Applied Science, each of which is given its own branded microsite.
These "microsites" are part of the overall website, but individual branding, which goes through to the sub pages, provides users with the impression that they are within a seperate area. Each microsite has its own news section, search facility and content hierarchy.
